HISTORIES OF FAMILY
After four years of existence in Antananarivo, Hakanto Contemporary now unfolds within this new playground, reaffirming our commitment to Madagascar and, above all, to artists.
A new setting designed to make greater room for emotions in uncertain times.
A larger space, allowing artists to express their desires, convictions and visions more freely.
As part of this expansion, we are also inaugurating new approaches: the creation of Hakanto Studio, a dedicated space for workshops; Resaka Hakanto, a programme of conversations and exchanges; a new Hakanto Shop; and the launch of Hakanto Edition, marking Hakanto Contemporary's entry into publishing. We also introduce a new curatorial framework structured around seasons.
We are therefore delighted to present our inaugural season, HISTORIES OF FAMILY, bringing together six exhibitions with distinct voices and perspectives.
THE GRIEF, a sound-based exhibition by Aude Onivola Rajaona, in which the artist summons family memories, from birthday celebrations to fara-veloma — the final farewell.
THE SIX-STOREY BODY OF FLYWHEELS, Jessy Razafimandimby's first monographic exhibition in Madagascar, transporting us through his various visions between fianakaviana fendrofendro sa ve ampinga paradisa ? — is family an emotional burden, or our first protection against the world?
AVEC ELLES, Alexandre Gourçon's first solo exhibition, drawing upon the legacy of his two grandmothers and celebrating the richness of local craftsmanship.
MOTHER, a dialogue between Asma Ben Aissa and Elie Ramanankavana dedicated to the figure of the mother — Mama a!
THIS IS MY HOME, a selection of works from the Yavarhoussen Collection, proposing an intimate and imaginary vocabulary of home, free from geography other than that of lightness.
And finally, JOELY SY ANDY, an unprecedented conversation between Andy Warhol and Joely, our Malagasy spokesperson for contemporary times.
This inaugural cycle explores the notion of family both as a vital force and a source of inspiration, but also, at times, as a weight carried in the unfolding of the self.
May Hakanto Contemporary continue to breathe through our hearts and, above all, through the times we live in today.
